छत्तीसगढ़ राज्य के गठन के बाद छत्तीसगढ़ शासन विद्यालय शिक्षा विभाग की अधिसूचना क्रमांक एफ 10-5-/13/2001 रायपुर 20-7-2001के द्वारा छत्तीसगढ़ माध्यमिक शिक्षा मण्डल का गठन किया गया ।

मण्डल का मुख्यालय प्रदेश की राजधानी रायपुर में है चार संभागीय कार्यालय बिलासपुर, सरगुजा, जगदलपुर, राजनांदगॉव में स्थापित है, संभागीय कार्यालय सरगुजा का कार्यक्षेत्र सरगुजा, कोरिया, बलरामपुर, सूरजपूर एवं जशपुर, बिलासपुर संभागीय कार्यालय का कार्यक्षेत्र बिलासपुर, जांजगीर, कोरबा, रायगढ़ एवं मुंगेली, जगदलपुर संभागीय कार्यालय का कार्यक्षेत्र जगदलपुर, दंतेवाडा, बीजापुर, नारायणपुर, सुकमा, कोण्डांगॉव एवं कांकेर तथा राजनांदगॉव संभागीय कार्यालय का कार्यक्षेत्र बालोद, बेमेतरा, दुर्ग, कवर्धा एवं राजनांदगॉव जिले में निर्धारित किये गये हैं। मण्डल ने वर्ष 2002 से स्वतंत्र रूप से अपनी परीक्षाएं आयोजित की है ।
